It was the residence of the prince-bishops of Trento from the 13th century to the end of the 18th century, and it is composed of a series of buildings of different eras, enclosed by walls and positioned slightly higher than the city. At the extreme south of the complex is the Torre Aquila, within which is conserved the famous Cycle of the Months, one of the most fascinating secular pictorial cycles of the late Middle Ages. It is also known as the enchanted valley because of its magnificent scenery; fascinating in all seasons, the valley offers trails through fields and woods surrounded by the almost 2.400 mt. high peaks of the eastern section of the Lagorai range. Here lives one of the three Trentino minorities, a German language community that moved here in the Middle Ages, attracted by the gold, pyrite and quartz mines. Numerous legends and stories have originated from these historical events. Local attractions include the Museum of the Valle dei Mòcheni/Bernstol and the mine Grua va Hardombl, where visitors can still see the marks left by the knappen (miners) who used to work there. There are numerous mountain huts and farmhouses in the area. Typical lunch in the Schwarz Adler Trattoria where the cuisine is expertly cared by Signora Maria. Afternoon dedicated to PIETRA VIVA STONE MUSEUM, an unusual museum, the result of the great passion of Pallaoro brothers, offering a curious awe-inspiring collection of minerals, rocks, metals and much more, spread over four floors. Inside, the focal point is a reconstruction of the biggest “geode”, a rock cavity covered in crystals, discovered by the brothers in the Nineties: as you peek through the gaps in the rock a kaleidoscopic world opens before your eyes. The museum takes you on a captivating journey through the ancient world of mines, 400 years of history that saw the mining business thriving and then disappearing in this valley and showing the strong German heritage. Beside the exhibition, there are bundles of activities: guided tours, practical workshops, evening talks, themed excursions and many other initiatives.. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
